Cub Promise Renewal

Cubs on the cable car

Our Cubs have had a great day out for their promise renewal day with the district: renewing their promise at the Tower of London before venturing back to the cable car at North Greenwich.  An amazing day for all involved!

Group Centenary

Friday 10th April 2015 marks 100 years since the 23rd Poplar first met.

We’ve come a long way from a small group of boys aged 11-18 meeting for the first time inspired by Scouting for Boys and we’ve got a lot planned for the future!

Brownsea Island wasn’t the only thing we’ll be doing to celebrate, so watch this space for more information… Happy birthday!

Brownsea Island Centenary Camp

Scouts on the Brownsea Island ferry

Easter weekend saw our Cubs and Scouts take to Brownsea Island for our centenary camp.

Brownsea Island was the home to Baden Powell’s first experimental camp in 1907 which led to the formation of Scouting.  Everyone involved had an amazing time: we saw 4 seasons worth of weather in 4 days; we invested new cubs, scouts & leaders; and we came home with clutch of new badges.

Well done everyone!

Gold!

Eddie and Ryan with their Gold Awards

Well done to Eddie and Ryan on achieving their Chief Scout’s Gold Awards!

The Chief Scout’s Award is the top badge in any section and represents years of hard work by our Scouts. These two are even more special as they’re first that we’ve awarded since the Scout section reopened in January 2012.

Join in Jamboree

Scouts taking part in Japanese activities

Tonight our Scouts have been taking part in the Join in Jamboree exploring Japanese food, clothing and traditional toys. They even made ‘sweet sushi’!
Good luck to everyone going to the Jamboree this year, here’s hoping some of us will join you in the USA in 2019!

District Incident Hike

Three Scouts getting ready for the hike

Our intrepid Scouts were out in Epping Forest today for the District Incident Hike. They tackling bases including problem solving, morse code, first aid and archery coming joint 4th out of 13 teams. One more base and they’d have come 3rd, so we’re expecting great things next year!

Cake sale at St Paul’s church

Cubs and Beavers at the Cake Sale

Well done to everyone who helped with our bake sale at St Paul’s Church in Bow this afternoon.

Many thanks to those parents who baked something for us! All proceeds are going towards our centenary year.

#BetterPrepared with the Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge visits Beavers

The Duchess of Cambridge visited our Beaver colony this evening as part of the Better Prepared programme opening new groups and sections in parts of the UK that need them the most.

The Duchess spent the evening helping our Beavers get their disability awareness badge along with Team GB paralympian Steve Judge, before meeting members of the Cubs and Scouts on her way back to Kensington Palace.

Thank you to the duchess for her visit and all the work she puts in with Scouting!
